Introduction
Google Sheets has been a key data tool for many businesses. It is also an efficient way to present data – and allows for iFrames. This integration allows you to setup a resource for others (even those without a Google account) to work directly in the Google Sheet from the portal and update the changes made in real time in both Google and the portal.
How to create a Google Sheet
Step 1: Create your Google Sheet (to do this navigate to docs.google.com>spreadsheets). Start a new spreadsheet and select a template.
Step 2: Once you have edited the spreadsheet and want to bring it into the portal, click on the green ‘share’ button at the top right-hand corner of the Google Sheet.
Step 3: Select the general access you prefer. Click ‘Copy Link’
Note: If preferred, a Google Sheet can be shared as a published read only document. To do this, click, File > Share > Publish to the Web. Use the Link option and setup the appropriate page to share and copy URL to use in iFrame instead.
How to Import a Google Sheet into Resources
This section will explain the steps required to create the iFrame using the Resources functionality. Make sure the allowed domains have been assigned correctly beforehand.
First, navigate to the homepage and click on the Resources section. Click New Resources using the green ‘+ New Resources’ button.
Then press Insert > Embed iFrame.
Paste the URL link from Google Sheets in the URL box. Adjust the width and height as required. Select Insert to activate the iFrame.
Enter a name and save your iFrame. You will be able to edit the Google Sheet directly from the Resources section.
How to share the iFrame on the homepage
This section will explain how to display a completed Google Sheet in a Group Homepage.
Once you have set up your Google Sheet as a resource in the portal, you can also display it on the homepage thanks to the widget functionality.
To do this navigate to the homepage, click Edit Widgets > + Add Widget.
Next you will need to configure the widget (the configure button is the cog on the right).
Then select the desired resource you wish to display e.g., sample resource.
The resource will now appear on the homepage as pictured below, where it is editable. To edit, click on the ‘Edit’ icon.
